Orchids

OHHHHH, how I worship orchids... the shapes, the color palettes, the aromas.... the mystery and the sex appeal....

That being said.... Be still my beating heart!!! Are these mirrors not the most gorgeous tribute to orchids ever?? The older I get, the more I tend to unconsciously avoid mirrors. However, if I had any one of these mirrors, I'd be admiring myself every chance I got. In fact, I'd slap on some make-up and a pretty dress just to see my fragmented, smokey reflection in one of these beauties.

All from the Lobmeyr Orchid Collection. Handcut black mirrored crystal and steel. All for the low, low price of $11,000 each.

Ha. I'll keep avoiding mirrors for now, I guess.

MOMMY, WHY DID GOD MAKE ME THIS WAY?????

I have expensive taste, ok? REAL EXPENSIVE. Not like mansion in LA expensive, but like CASTLE IN FREAKING FRANCE expensive. And it is downright frustrating to be such a poor pauper with such expensive taste. It's like a joke....a really bad, mean joke.

In another life, I would whip out a bag of gold coins and buy these heartbreakingly beautiful chairs. My servants would load them onto the backs of my fleet of royal unicorns, and back to the castle we would go to find King Dan swan diving into a silo full of gold coins, just like Scrooge McDuck on Duck Tails. And we'd all live happily ever freaking after.

Coin Chair by Johnny Swing, $59,000.

Item description: Performance art in a chair: Hand-welded in the curvaceous shape of a butterfly, amassed from 1500 half dollar coins and 7000 welds. Stainless steel and half-dollar pieces. The contoured shape is designed to cradle the body.

This would obviously go in the modern art wing of the castle and, actually, I'll probably need two of these, you know: for feng shui, bringing the total, so far, to $118,000.

Lucite Chair by Suzanne Fellman, $2,500.

This is the most beautiful piece of art I have ever seen in my entire life. I have a major thing for lucite...

Yeeeesh. I'd better get rich (understatement) soon or I am destined to a lifetime of disappointment and cheap chairs... OH, THE HORROR!!

Lighten Up

Building a blog is kind of like interior decorating.... Feng Shui is key. Given that Feng Shui is based on the Taoist vision and understanding of nature, particularly on the idea that the land is alive and filled with energy, I realized that having black walls, or in the case of a blog: a black background, did not make my blog feel alive. In fact, it felt quite dead (plus my Mommy told me it was hard for her to read). Today I discovered that I could interior decorate my blog by choosing different colors for my background, text, and links. Whew! Thank goodness! I thought I was going to be stuck with my split second decision of black a few days ago when creating my blog. So I opened up the windows and let the light and energy of Portland winter in. Grey foggy skies, cold dark blue water, and a little bit of frozen soil. Ahhhhhh, yes, bask in my Feng Shui now, bitches! And while I'm tossing paint around, I may as well throw in a chair, a rug, and a wall hanging.

Ok, this freakin' deer head is too cute and pink is sooo not normally my style, but I've fallen head over hoof for this, and in the spirit of "lightening up," it's nice to have a splash of bright color. I love this Ghost Chair by Ralph Nauta and Lonneke Gordijn of Design Drift. I crave it. I dream about it. It looks like Old Man Winter blew some of his frosty breath into the mold. Lastly is the Woody Wood Rug by Yvette Laduk. I've been coveting this rug for a long time now and I'm pretty sure that if I am a good girl it will one day be mine.

Now let's cozy up by the fire.
